Data Catalog FAQs

What is the purpose of the Data Catalog?

The Data Catalog is a new location in the platform to exclusively investigate and understand data objects. It's designed to answer key questions like "What data do I have?", "Where is my data?", and "Who has access to my data?" It allows you to view data objects without having to view them as Data-in-Motion (DIM) events.

How is the Data Catalog populated?

The Data Catalog uses information collected from both Data-in-Motion (DIM) and Data-at-Rest (DAR) activity. DAR data is expected to make up the majority of the viewable content, as it broadens the scope beyond traditional DIM activity.

Can I see data that has been deleted?

The Data Catalog defaults to showing the current state of your environment. Data that has been removed (e.g., deleted) is not shown by default, but it may be stored and searchable in the future to show previous instances of data.

Can I export data from the Data Catalog?

Yes, the page should allow you to export data from the tabular view, and possibly from the detailed views, so you can use the information in external systems like ticketing systems or SOAR.

Is the Data Catalog available to all customers?

The Data Catalog is a new feature available to customers with Standard, Enterprise, and Advanced licenses.
